Hello I'm Murphy!
I love to play, some may say I have almost too much energy. I really love to spend time with my best friend and foster sibling Cosmo the dog, don't tell the dog I love them though because you know, cats rule dogs drool. I have been described as eccentric but honestly I think I'm just fabulous. Oh, I can't forget my foster family, I love having cuddles with them when I'm not hanging out with my bestie Cosmo.
I haven't had the best luck in life, but I've really landed on my paws with my forever foster family.
My Story
Murphy came to the rescue after a social media follower found him in her horses stable, he was all alone and frightened but friendly.
Once he arrived it became quite apparent, quite quickly that something with this little boy was amiss, but he didn't present as unwell as such.
Murphy started to become wobbly when walking, he was taken to the vets for a blood test and once his results were back the vets became concerned that it may be FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis).
FIP is a severe and often fatal viral disease and is a mutation of the more common FCoV (Feline Coronovirus), the mutation is not fully understood and FIP is notoriously difficult to diagnose as the symptoms mimic many other conditions.
Unfortunately he became very poorly very quickly and started to have seizures, his wobbles became a whole body shake and he could no longer walk without falling over. We started FIP treatment immediately with GS (GS-441524 is a nucleoside analogue antiviral drug) and when the seizures subsided we were hopeful for his recovery.
Murphey then took another turn for the worse and had to be admitted to intensive care, where he was then also diagnosed with toxo pneumonia. Toxo pneumonia is a severe lung infection, usually occurring in immunocompromised cats - such as those with FIP, FeLV, FIV.
He is a very lucky boy as with lots of around the clock care and love he pulled through.
Murphey has had a few set backs since, one being stomatitis, a severe and painful inflammation of the mouth and gums, so he now has no teeth remaining.
The toxo pneumonia left scaring on his lungs, which can leave him breathless during playtime, but of course that does not stop him from playing.
Murphy is currently a happy, healthy boy (for Murphy at least), who is truly thriving in his forever sanctuary home.
