Hello I'm Humphrey!
Apparently, I'm about 18, but I prefer the term "distinguished gentleman." I was abandoned over a decade ago, and by the time I was rescued, I was in rough shape - sore skin, no energy, and teeth that just had to go. These days, I'm living the good life with my lovely foster humans, Mary and Peter. I get soft food, gentle brushings, and all the naps I want. It may have taken a while, but I'm finally home.
My Story
We first heard about Humphrey when contacted about a very sick-looking cat spotted in Whitchurch. He was in such poor condition that he was taken straight to an out-of-hours vet.
His back was completely matted down to the skin, and once shaved, his skin underneath was raw, sore, and almost bruised. He was severely anaemic - the result of a heavy flea infestation that had been feeding on him for far too long. Despite his appearance, he was microchipped. Shockingly, we learned he had been abandoned 14 years ago.
Based on that and the condition he was found in, the vets estimated that Humphrey was around 18 years old.
Once admitted, he underwent a full health workup, including X-rays and blood tests. He was also suffering from stomatitis, a severe and painful inflammation of the mouth due to long-term neglect, so he had to have all of his teeth removed. On top of that poor Humphrey was diagnosed with arthritis in his back end - likely due to his age and years of untreated discomfort.
To help with his arthritis Humphrey now receives a monthly injection called Solensia, the active ingredient targets and neutralises nerve growth factor, this reduces the transmission of pain signals which can help improve a cats mobility, comfort and overall quality of life. He also needs daily help with grooming, as he's no longer able to manage that on his own.
Humphrey has now settled into his peaceful retirement home with his loving foster parents Mary and Peter where he's comfortable, safe, and adored. After years of surviving on his own, Humphrey is finally getting the love and care he always deserved.
