Hello I'm Emba!
I've had a bit of a rough ride. No one knows how I ended up alone, flea-bitten, wobbly, and hurting, but I do know I was lucky to be rescued. My ear doesn't work, my back gets sore, and my tummy can be tricky - but none of that stops me from loving humans with my whole heart. I'm now a sanctuary cat, which means I get the meds, cuddles, and tasty food I need to live my best life. Finally, I'm home.
My Story
We were contacted by a kind woman in Prees, who had spotted a small, very scruffy-looking cat wandering around a local livery yard. The cat had no visible tail, was clearly uncomfortable, and looked unwell. We took her in as an emergency intake.
This little tortoiseshell cat, whom we named Emba, arrived flea-ridden, hunched over, with a distinct head shake and wobbly balance. She also had roughly half of one ear left, with what appeared to be a growth inside. It was immediately clear to our team that she needed urgent veterinary care.
At the vet, we learned Emba was around 8-9 years old and, to our surprise, a Manx cat, which explained the absence of her tail. The issue with her ear turned out to be the result of an untreated blood clot that had burst, crushing the ear in on itself. This had caused blockage, discomfort, balance issues, and constant irritation, explaining her wobbliness and head shaking.
Surgery was the only way to relieve her discomfort, and thankfully, it went well. The damaged part of the ear was removed, and Emba recovered beautifully - but that wasn't the end of her medical challenges.
Further examination revealed spinal deterioration - a progressive condition that can't be cured, but can be managed with pain relief and monitoring. Not long after her surgery, Emba returned to the vet again, this time for ongoing digestive issues. She was diagnosed with IBD (Inflammatory bowel disease) and started on a strict gastrointestinal diet to keep her symptoms under control.
Despite the odds, Emba is one of the sweetest, most affectionate cats we've ever met. She adores human company, leans into every stroke, and would happily be fussed all day if she could. We strongly suspect she was abandoned, through no fault of her own - just a kind, gentle cat in need of help.
The whole team quickly agreed that Emba deserved a safe, stable, loving home for the rest of her life - and so she became a CATW Sanctuary Cat.
Emba now receives ongoing medical care, a tailored diet, and all the love and attention she craves. She no longer has to fend for herself or suffer in silence. She has a name, a place, and people who truly care about her in her sanctuary home.
